Bronka Sundstrom (my neighbor and the oldest woman to climb Mt. Rainier) used to tell about all the full beer cans she found that people had dropped on Muir Snowfield ... and that she picked up and hauled out ... and she doesn't even drink beer ;D ;D

He said 'Hey, that's my ski, what are you doing with my ski', obviously pissed and accusatory.  I explained where I found it, that there was no other ski around and that I figured I'd carry it out to try to get it back to it's rightful owner.  He said he had it stashed up there (from his last trip?) so he didn't have to carry it in.

What would I have actually done or wanted to do? I would have been really trying to keep myself from sucker punching that fool...

You definitely did the right thing. A****le ranger...most of the climbing rangers (that I've encountered) are really cool though. Karma will bite him good though.

I would have thought the same thing.  Your effort to haul it out in the hopes it would reunite someone with their lost ski is commendable.  Thumbs up.

Poor show by the ranger.

A couple of years ago a Glacier basin ranger boasted to us how many cached boots and sneakers he'd picked up and carried out from "his"  area. It's making them wear uniforns that makes them act that way.

I was actually in one of those parties with "rescued" cached shoes. Thankfully knew a ranger who hunted them down and retrieved them a week later.
Not nice.
