I am a President Elect Obama supporter but I take exception to your attempted censorship of acarey. Courtesy is expected here but not to the exclusion of free expression. Although I understand he was being sarcastic, I didn't find it rude.
That PNW passive/aggresive PC BS again?????

The news is sad enough without having to read your thinly veiled sarcasm re "lord Obama". Please don't unnecessarily raise your backcountry brother's bloodpressure with your misdirected invective. Remember, courtesy is the norm here.

Just drove up to check on Bronka & Andy's places (OK). The folks at the Entrance say the road is open to Longmire with no major damage!!! Now if they can clear the Glacier Hill slides before the parking lots drift in, Paradise may be back in business soon (afternoons at least
). Telemetry is malfunctioning, but I can see new snow on the trees above about 4500' on the local ridges. I imagine every small stream is a crevasse and there are probably runnels big enough to swallow a cow, but it looks like we did indeed squeak through...

Mount Rainier: Flood damage closes road to Paradise
CRAIG HILL; The News Tribune
Published: January 9th, 2009 04:42 AM | Updated: January 9th, 2009 06:48 AM
A 100-foot section of road in Mount Rainier National Park was damaged by floodwaters, acting park superintendent Randy King said Thursday.
Road crews still were accessing the damage and had not determined how soon they can repair and reopen the only winter route to Paradise.
The Nisqually Road has been closed above Longmire since Monday. The road closed entirely overnight, but partially reopened Thursday morning. The road damage is just above the Nisqually Glacier View Bridge at about 4,000 feet, King said.
The Federal Highway Administration will also review the damage.
King said as much as an entire lane of the road was scoured away by the swollen river. The damaged area has not typically been susceptible to flood damage, King said, however there were avalanches in the area last year.
Areas like Sunshine Point, Kautz Creek and Longmire, damaged by the historic 2006 flood, are holding up well, King said.
“It is not on the level of two years ago,” King said.
Flooded roads outside the park have kept officials from being able to reach areas like Carbon River Road and Ohanapecosh Campground to check for damage. King is concerned that heavy snow loads on buildings could cause damage.
