Thanks so much for spearheading this!
There's always a learning curve and I think you've done a great job trying to get this started.

Hi Lordhedgie and Charles,
I was thinking it would be nice to have some context (description) to the the pictures when voting. While the quality and subjects were great, I saw lots of places I didn't know the location, and lots of pictures of area I did know (ie. the Muir snowfield). So we don't end up with a calendar that could just as well be titled "The TAY Muir Calendar" ...
Also, should we recuse ourselves if we're the subject of a particular shot?
(Thanks Jimmy!)
Ialso think it's a great idea, and for an experiment, a success! The chance to vote on photos is really exciting, and my kids were oohing and awwwing and lobbying for me to vote for certain ones. It was a fun process. I'm already looking forward to next year.
Thanks!

Good idea. For the 2009 contest I'll put the name of the skier/riders and the location, assuming it was provided. I don't want to put the name of the photographer, lest people vote for names rather than images.
And no, feel free to vote for pictures of yourself.

Even though the names and locations were not presented in the photos displayed for the voting process, was the intention to have captions done for the ones that make this issue?
If so, it should be easy to request that information from the person who submitted the photo.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see the photo's on the December voting thread.

You're not alone on that. Charles and I had a bit of a misunderstanding, and it turns out several people were confused on one point -- which generally means I was unclear. The intent was to produce a calendar of the year's best images, but many participants sent images in from years past. I've got no way of knowing which are new and which are old, so this year I just put them all up. But I only got two entries for December (seeing how I didn't ask for December entries). My apologies for all the confusion on that point, but I think the 2009 rules are far more clear and it will be more fair next go-round.
