Harry Tangen (I'll have to check for sure, but I believe that is his name if I remember correctly) was the older gentleman who gave me the info. He stated that there were 2 jumps across from each other. One on the T-bird hill and the other opposite (B-Jump) and both landed in the same general area. He said they did a lot of blasting on the t-bird hill to make a smooth hill to land.

He also said there was another jump located on the east slope of t-bird made of criss-cross trees that would yield 50'-60' jumps. Also there was a small jump just in front of the Seattle Ski Club building, like a beginner jump I believe.

If the web had existed in the old days, this site might have been called "swings-all-year.com". "Swing" is a much more lyrical word than "turn" don't you think? It faded from use gradually after the 1950s.

It wasn't too many years ago that ski schools included "shortswing" in their teaching progression. But the 1980s and 90s replaced that term with the robotic-sounding "short radius turn".

Charles Hessey, Jr., a Cascade pioneer, described a perfect ski day in 1948: "A wish would swing you."I love the "Telemark swing". I'll have to add that phrase to my own "Tele two-step": a joyful dance done when donning the boots and heading out for a day of skiing, and/or danced at the end of a day to celebrate the joy of skiing.

I love it!
Thinking about skiing, wishing one is skiing, simply makes the swing the thing.
Great quote.

Charles Hessey, Jr., a Cascade pioneer, described a perfect ski day in 1948: "A wish would swing you."

This is one of the best TRs ever! Even without pics.

Sounds like one of the earliest cases of "Short Man's Syndrome" that I have heard of...

Great story Lowell, thanks for digging it up.
Perfectly lamblike except under great provocation.
I think that's how I'm going to refer to myself from now on.
