March 25, 2009 Stevens - O Yeah was created by Zap
What a day to call the local ski reports and then make a decision. I chose Door #2. Stevens was reporting 12” new overnight with gusty winds. It started snowing in Sultan and I knew this was going to be a good day. The road was slushy from Zeke’s and the traffic got into a single file and plowed thru the slush. I did not see any brave souls try to pass and have to fight the slush barrier.
It snowed the entire time on the mountain and after 2.5 hours I had about 4” new on the car. It was very similar to last Sunday with boot to knee deep powder on a firm surface. You could feel the firm base on steep terrain. In moderate and treed terrain it was blower powder. The gusty winds scraped the ridge lines down to the firm surface plus created some dense wind drifts. It was another wonderful March powder day. I tried to leave early to get back for our BC trip BUT highway 2 closed around 11am for a few hours. The drive around via Blewett and Snoqualmie Pass was looooong. This recession is allowing too many unemployed skiers/boarders to spend powder days at the resorts versus searching for gainful employment and contributing to my Social Security check.

Door #2 paid out. Excellent conditions along with the prolonged hwy closure made fro a great powder day at Stevens. No lines anywhere but the roadside. We hit it hard.
Hiking back to the resort up the middle of a deserted Hwy 2 was kinda cool. Hadn't done that before.

Not quite the same but reminds me of the time, they closed down the Narrows bridge because of an overturned dumptruck and I was on my bike so they let me go through... got to ride down the middle of the bridge and several miles up HWY 16 all by my lonesome... weird. But cool.
