Christmas and New Years Franconia/Cannon, Mt., NH was created by RyanPete81
I wasn't going to post anything regarding my trip to the EC for Christmas, as I didn't think there would be much interest, but I found a few other Cannon followers, here's a short synopsis:
I was able to get away from the lab for the first time in a while and made it back home to the east coast. Serendipitously, I took off before Seattle was hit by the big storm that left the city paralyzed, and landed in Manchester, NH in a blizzard...drove the 2 hrs north to Franconia, and was able to take advantage of 3' of east coast powder...there wasn't much of a base, so there was plenty of shrubbery slalom and rock dodging. However, growing up skiing at Cannon, you learn to really appreciate snow that isn't bullet proof, and take advantage of it, even if it requires a few extra hours tuning and ptex-ing your bases!
Here's a little video teaser from my trip home, all of which is filmed in Franconia, either in the Cannon backcountry or a few other stashes around town:

Nice vid'! I don't think I'll ever ride east-coast hills, nonetheless the sparse tree riding depicted was enough to make me salivate...

Does everybody on the east coast ski in that wild, borderline out of control Bode Miller style?

Thanks Ryan/Pete -- I've skied Cannon once and it was on a stupid-cold bonechilling day. I think I was the only one on the hill that day and I had to warm up in the lodge between runs...

Ahhhh Cannon Mt ! A few years ago Jill traveled back East with me and we skied a few of my favorites. Rode the tram at Cannon in brilliant sunshine. Then rode the chair as the snow guns coated us with a layer of frozen ice crystals. Skied the squeaky cold snow and made a hot chocolate stop after each run. Jill now understands "cold".

I skied Cannon probably 15 times growing up and that describes just about every time, but for some reason we always went back. Riding the Tram instead of sitting on a cold lift in gale force winds helped a little.
