Dry.Q vs. Gore-Tex? was created by freg
I have a pass to buy some stuff from the Mountain Hardwear employee store and was wondering if anyone has experience with their Dry.Q jackets, specifically how they compare to similar Gore-Tex models from other manufacturers?

Wondering if I should waste my time with one of their jackets or just get a puffy. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I believe that Dry Q is Event, a Goretex like permeable membrane. My experience with it is good.

From what I remember, eVent is different from Gore-Tex, and much more breathable, at least a couple of years ago. There are newer Gore-Tex materials, and I have no experience with them

DryQ elite is based on eVent technology, but supposedly even more breathable than original eVent. I have / had eVent jackets and pants, gore-tex pro shell and paclite (couple of paclite versions), DryQ Elite, and a couple of other wp/b materials. DryQ is the most breathable for me, but even it is not breathable enough in some cases.

I have never tried Neoshell, so can't compare to this.

My best bet is that you would be served very well by DryQ Elite

Cheers
Ivo

Try searching through the various hard shell posts on the Cold Thistle blog. No one quite gets into nuances of clothing like Dane. The below post might be helpful

Dry.Q Elite is indeed an eVent fabric made under license from General Electric. Depending on face fabric, eVent is typically somewhat more breathable than previous generations of GORE-TEX fabrics but somewhat less waterproof. It's a great solution for people who skin in 34 degree F. weather with precipitation (sound familiar?), and comparable to GORE-TEX Active fabric in its breathability. The new GORE-TEX Pro (this year's version) without the PU coating on the inside may be almost as breathable, but I haven't worn it enough yet to judge. Overall, I'd say eVent is great for people who are super active and intend to wear the garments while on the move, less optimal for those who will sit on the chair in the rain in them.

My guess would be that the Mountain Hardwear Dry.Q Elite shells are excellent.
