Beautiful piece by Fitz and crew -- captures Roj well and all he's been through since we got so lucky. Hard to believe, still, how close to him I was and yet walked down without a scratch.

Thanks for sharing the piece! I was pleased with how it turned out.  We put a lot of effort into creating this piece and I feel like it captures Roj's spirit.  For the nitty gritty details of the events the original thread is worth a read.  We just didn't have the footage to get to detailed with the account of the slide.  Instead I thought it was important to focus on Roger's thinking and emotional experience.  I'm not a believer in the statement "You're safer in the mountains than you are driving a car or you could get killed walking down the street."  I think it's sloppy, easy thinking.  I think the mountains exist in contradiction to many of us and that's okay. They are both a source of peace, but also of inherent risk.  We have families or loved ones, but we also define ourselves by moving through these landscapes.  That's what I wanted to get at.  We all make mistakes, but lets hope they are small enough that we get to learn from them. Be safe, but live wild.


Marcus, Dan, Doug and Drew I think about that day a lot when I'm in the backcountry. So glad everything worked out in the end.  You guys were so dialed when shit went down. The amount of joke cracking considering the situation was great. 

For those of you who dig the video, it's part of a series of short films I'm doing with Arc'teryx.  The last piece was also a pretty darn cool story to work on -- The Gimp Monkeys -- the first all disabled ascent of El Cap.
