skiing on 14 Nov at Paradise? was created by Andrew Carey
Check the tweets. Park personnel were reporting extreme avalanche danger during the rescue today; more snow tonight; it would not be surprising if they decide not to open the Longmire gate tomorrow--if so, I will sad not glad, feel dissed and very pissed. :-(

Was the gate closed today?  Was it closed Monday because of the search (reducing effective staffing around the park) or the weather.  I couldn't find any winter storm warnings (nor watch - did I miss it?), except for the Palouse and Blues.  If there was an advisory on Monday, I would think it would have been up Sunday, too.  Extreme avalanche conditions?  I guess I haven't been paying enough attention, but maybe all the new isn't stuck well to the ice.  If that's the case, it could be a tough season there.

I'd be surprised if the gate opens tomorrow.

I think the park utilizes NWAC forecasts to evaluate avalanche risk and since they are not issuing forecasts yet, the park will take a very conservative approach to avalanche hazard is my speculation.

With a two day search and rescue operation just concluded, both the park personnel and the SAR volunteers probably need time to recover.

Besides the Weather forecast for Wednesday is "snow likely" and Thursday is "mostly sunny"  -- Looks like rain on Saturday :P

Report from one of the SAR folks:

The skiing was pretty bad. The new snow had turned into about two feet of wet concrete. Not going to lie...it was a rough way to start the ski season.
