Bump - I'm curious too. I heard recently that when the snow melts way down, there is a vertical rock face near the summit that resembles an old wall. I just always assumed it was the whole face.

The Roman Nose is the blunt ridge on the climbers' left...

I thought that the nose was the sharp rock ridge separating the Coleman Headwall from the roman mustache? ???

I think Sam is right -- the Roman Nose looks like its namesake. It could logically follow that the Roman Wall gets its name by proximity.

Today a lot of people use "Roman Wall" to refer to the final slope of the Coleman/Deming climbing route. I think if you look at Beckey's guide and other old references, you'll find that Roman Wall historically referred to an ice/rock cliff just right of the Roman Nose. The use of the name has shifted over time.

I'm not sure how the historical "Roman Wall" relates to today's "Roman Mustache."

I'll be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong ...
