Mission Ridge uphill in jeopardy was created by mikerolfs
I see on "Wenatchee Outdoors"  www.justgetout.net/Wenatchee/pages/page/?pgid=60 that the patrol's morning avy control routine was interrupted yesterday by uphill travelers.  The article quotes both the marketing director and the mountain manager with daunting messages about consequences and the possibility of SHUTTING DOWN UPHILL TRAFFIC AT MISSION RIDGE.

Something to think about.  If they say "AREA CLOSED", we can't go there.   Losing the opportunity to make a lap after work would be tragic.

Talk to them.  You should be able to work out some protocols.

There is an official policy. Idiots won't follow it.

I would like to think that it was a case of not understanding the risk they could have been in, or the risk they put the patrollers doing the control work in. I think we all need to do a better job educating skiers doing things that jeopardise our ability to use the mountain. It is hard to get everyone on the same page, but there sure is plenty of room for improvement. In conversation with friends on the mountain today we have all seen people doing things that we know are wrong, but we don't want to be a hard ass so we don't say anything. Maybe those times are past, and protecting our skiing privilege is more important than bruising someones feelings. I think we are all lucky to have the privileges we do, and I would hate to see them revoked.

A head's up, I had skied in the Clara Lake basin, and because the trail out was so nasty, I decided to ski back to my car via Central Park and out down the pipeline road. I had my dog with me, it was 4:30, and I was being lazy, so I cut into the resort at the top of one, and bumped into a patroller finishing up sweep. He was clearly unhappy with me, and told me not to bring my dog into the resort. In times past as long as I was being discreet after hours, there has never been a problem. They (the resort staff) have clearly had a belly full and are clamping down. I should have stayed clear.

Thanks for the update, Jamie.  A good reminder that we all need to keep our heads down while this gets sorted out.  I've been watching the "Wenatchee Outdoors" site expecting to see some news about a resolution, but nothing yet.  I made a headlamp lap tonight and didn't see anyone out, but I did see snowmaking on the upper terrain park.
