Turns out it was Jamie Pierre, a pro skier .
He was snowboarding at the time and was swept over a cliff.
According to reports, there were about 4 to 5 different avy incidents in the LCC area that day and several near misses and several people hurt to some degree.
Sobering.

Ugh... I thought that name sounded familiar. The early season fever always makes me really nervous. So sad for his friends and family.

Sad for his wife and children. This used to be a rare occurence. Avy deaths are a much more common event than in the past, with BC skiing becoming mainstream.
Be careful out there, kids! We can always wait for stuff to fill in and stabilize...
