Enchantments access? was created by rootsman
Thinking about heading in for 4 days starting this weekend, wondering about the best way to get in there. Is Snow Creek a reasonable alternative with the road closure adding miles to Aasgard Pass? At about what elevation would we hit snow? I've hiked Snow Creek in September, and I wasn't paying as much attention to the avy swaths, but on Google Earth it looks like a shooting gallery. How spooky is it going up the valley?
Any feedback or suggestions welcome. I've read everything that I could find here, CC.com, and NWhikers, just wondering if anyone's holdin' fresh data...
Thanks

I went up Snow Creek on sunday 8th May, 10 days ago. Snow was continuous-ish about 3000' (ish), and there's some blow-down. Headed up Tokitie Creek, which had slid a lot at about 5500'

I haven't been up either Rat or Hook, but I did read the recent TR and the navigation looks pretty straightforward...
The only thing I'm concerned about is that those valleys look like nasty terrain traps, and with the current snowpack I'm inclined to be cautious. Would it be possible to go up the ridges on either side?

The bike ride from 8 Mile Campground up 8 Mile Road isn't that bad. That would be my first choice. 2nd choice would be Rat or Hook. Very last choice would be sno lake trail.

We went up Rat Creek a few weeks ago. It's a pretty substantial bushwack. I would recommend staying on the climber's left side of the creek. Some big avy debris around 4K but the avy exposure isn't something I'd worry about too much until you get up near Prussik pass. We thought about Hook Creek. It's more direct and probably gets you to snow faster, but it entails some extra vert.
