I recently got some BD Neve Pro crampons.
While I was fitting them, I noticed that when the ski boot is in "walk" mode, the movement of the upper shell of the ski boot produces constant friction against the post clamping down the heel, and against the the straps attached to the post.
With enough friction the straps will fray and eventually break... this can't be good.
Is it just the Black Diamond crampons that do this, or do other crampons with a similar attachment method do this too?
Although it seems completely counter intuitive is it common that one keeps the boot in "ski" mode, while walking, to avoid this constant friction?
Since the the Neve Pro is designed for backcountry ski boots, is this a design flaw?

I had a chance to look into this some more. I was thinking maybe this was an incompatibility with the BD Neve pro crampon and Scarpa boots... which doesn't entirely make sense, since Scarpa is such a popular boot and one would think that Black Diamond would have the sense to design their crampon for it as well.
When I looked at the Neve Pro crampon pictured on the Black Diamond site, I immediately saw that the way the strap is attached to the heel clamp has been re-designed, so that the strap no longer comes in direct contact with the boot.
Since I had obviously been sent an older version of the Neve pro crampon I went back to rockclimbingtools.com, where I bought the Neve Pros, to look at the image corresponding to the Neve Pro crampons. But the posting is gone...
seems like the older versions should be recalled, but I didn't come up with any information on a Black Diamond Neve Pro recall...

MY 2 cents.
Contact BD direct... they have excellent customer service and the people you will be talking to probably have used the product and at tleast understand the issue you are raising.

I had an e-mail in to BD which I hadn't heard back from, so I took your advice Scotsman, and gave them a call.
What I got was a lecture about not shopping on the internet... LOL. Apparently I'm not shopping correctly... Not that I know anybody who hauls their ski boots all over town trying on crampons. But I guess that's the message from Black Diamond. Irregardless of the fact that the BD Neve Pro is described as specifically designed for touring boots. Irregardless of the fact that the Scarpa Spirit 4 is not exactly an obscure or brand new boot.
I don't know, if I were designing a crampon I would make sure it fit the Scarpa line as well, instead of giving my customers lectures about how they haven't shopped correctly.
Later on in the day I got a reply to my e-mail which was a little more reasonable, offering me the new (re-designed) heel post at cost. Eventually this turned into sending me the new heel post at no cost...
a little exhausting trying to talk them into standing behind their product, but whatever, I'm getting the re-designed heel post now.

ha, funny.
Well at least you got it sorted out and got a new heel post.
BTW I agree with them... you should have gone to Promountain Sports in Seattle rather than sitting on your couch eating bonbons, drinking beer and websurfing for ski mountaineering gear and looking at ski porn
I never do that.
Edit to add.: here's an amusing video my pal PNWBrit just found to cheer you up after such an exhausting gear episode.

Nothing like using the marketplace for R&D...
... BD has been doing this for years.
