Randonee ski questions was created by BrianT
Hey have a question for you guys who are pro's with ski's

Went on my first back country trip with my randonee ski's and boots and getting in them at the car was no problem. However if there's a TON of powder, it's super hard to get my feet to click in the pin-holes of the skis. Any help for a dude in TX would be awesome :)

Well, first of all, Saxy, I've just got to ask,
Where do you find a TON of powder in TX? :)
Then, to answer your question if you're not just trolling us...
I'll assume, when you're talking about AT bindings with "pins" you must be meaning dynafits.
When donning dynafits in deep snow it helps to stomp out a platform to allow you to engage the toe pins without having loose snow fall in around the binding to impede the process.
Alternatively, drive the tail of the skis into the snow so that the bindings are held firmly slightly above the snow while you step into the toe pins.

Good tips from Ron J.

In light unconsolidated snow it helps to use your skis as a platform during transitions, and only changing modes (from uphill to downhill) one boot at a time, leaving one foot engaged with the ski at all times to distribute your weight.

I also like to use a sharpie to draw horizontal lines on toes of my boots where the toe piece is located.

You can sort of see it here:

Practice on the carpet in your living room while watching the Cowboys on TV, until you can do it blindfolded. Actually, start now, it works just as well while watching the Rangers.

Yeah sorry Dynafits is what I was talking about, and the pow in TX? Pfft, it's all over! Well not really, just got back from CO on Quandary Peak made it to 12k (Amazing how well skins help when going up) had to turn around due to real bad weather and avalanche conditions rated high. I watched a few videos on it. I'll try the sharpe thing to see if that helps.
