Sat., Feb. 26: are you heading out? was created by Mtnbound
Just wondering if anyone is heading out tomorrow? The avy danger (west slopes) is considerable below 6,000', high above. Certainly not the best conditions, but not the worst, either (e.g. look at Sunday!). My partners and I are planning on hitting Yodelin tomorrow (or other mellow terrain) and taking it easy. I was originally planning on going to the Chair Peak basin area, but that doesn't sound like a good idea for tomorrow.
Anybody have any thoughts? Anyone NOT going out tomorrow b/c of the avy forecast?

I'd agree that Chair Peak basin may not be a good idea tomorrow, or Sunday. I'm undecided on whether I'm going out tomorrow, but mostly b/c of health. It would be a great day to get out and just explore safe terrain, focusing less on the turns and more on the vistas.

Can anyone tell me if it's sketchy to ski at Hurricane Ridge tomorrow? I have pretty much no experience in the backcountry, my buddy that's been skiing there his whole life tells me it's no problem. I have no idea what the terrain is like there, we wouldn't be doing any hiking but probably a lot of traversing off the rope tow.

Although there is significant avalanche hazard now and certainly worsening Saturday, Hurricane has a fair amount of moderate terrain along the ridge. It steepens considerably as you work downslope and there are many very steep slopes a few hundred vertical below the ridgeline. With good visibility it should be manageable.
Here is a link to The NWAC telemetry for Hurricane. It looks as though there is about a foot and a half of new snow there this week, somewhat less than on the Cascade west slope areas: www.nwac.us/weatherdata/hurricaneridge/10day/

Thanks...we won't be doing any skinning and we're planning to stick to the flatter stuff. I'll probably try to talk to a patroller up there to make sure we don't do anything stupid. Appreciate the help.
