How do You Keep Your Boots Dry ? was created by Kyle Miller
I love multiday trips but the one thing I can't stand is waking up and putting on wet boots. I know of a few different tricks but I was wondering if anyone knew of any other tricks?
I have found these to be effective but not perfect.
Putting your boots in a windy area where the inside is exposed. The wind seems to do a good job.
Putting a recently warmed nalgene in your boots. It helps but doesn't finish the job.
Putting dry clothes in your boots to soak up the moisture. (the last thing I want to do is bring a bunch of extra clothes specifically for this.)

I've had good luck taking a small chunk of anti-perspirant and rubbing it on my feet so my boot liners never get all that saturated to begin with. Are you using a thermofit/intuition type liner? I think those are far easier to get dried out cause only the liner fabric can absorb moisture, the foam won't soak up any sweat.

I carry an old "Sammy" on back packing trips and multiday climbs (you can get a "Sammy" in a swim suit shop, a fake chamois towel from the Target car care section is cheeper alternative).
Great for mopping up the floor of your tent or portaledge. Great for drying off after bathing/swimming, wrings out easily and soaks moisture off anything quickly.
Probably perfect for ski boots.

Not that I'm 'old school' (yet), but my understanding is that the 'old school' method for keeping boots dry on multi day trips is to use a vapor barrier liner (or VBL for the acronymiphile). Your feet will be wet in the VBL but your boots don't get wet, from sweat anyway. You can dry the VBL out at night or carry two pair. My source suggests bread bags also work nicely and are not very pricey. Doesn't sound very appealling but is perhaps better than wet or frozen boots first thing in the morn. Perhaps there are some true 'old schoolers' that can chime in with some personal experience.

I air mine out depending on sun, wind, time left till bed, etc. Then, if still damp, I sleep with my liners. Don't know if snowboard boots have removable liners. Might be too bulky to sleep with!
