a bowl in a bowl makes sense to the chief was created by Keith_Henson
A story in yesterday's
Missoulian
brought a smile to my lips.
In a story on medical marijuana and where it is appropriate for Montana patients to medicate, Missoula's Police Chief Mark Muir noted that, because it is federal land, it's still illegal to fire up a bowl on the Snowbowl ski lift, a restriction that's never done much to prevent the practice.
But, Chief Muir stated, "I don't think there are enough restrictions in the law, but I think if your place has ‘bowl' in the name, people ought to be able to smoke one."

funny. Maybe he was referring to the Public Safety break.

From the same article;
... But let's say you were a medical marijuana patient who also had an interest in Missoula's recent effort to pass an anti-discrimination ordinance. Could you testify at City Hall, then step outside and smoke medical marijuana on the sidewalk next to the police station, then go back to the meeting?
"Absolutely," said Chief Muir. "There are businesses that have rules about smoking within some number of feet of an entrance, but on the public sidewalk, you can smoke. I don't have to like it, but that's the way it is."...
Not looking to start a fight or taint Keith's gem, but I couldn't help but reflect on Arizona's new immigration law and its' profiling attributes. Would it really be unreasonable for a cop to ask to see a public pot smokers 'papers', right outside the courthouse?

Good question David. But I really started the thread as it was a ski specific quote that I found humorous. I find myself feeling uncomfortable though with the idea that this might become a thread for a heated debate on hot political issues unrelated to skiing.

Hey Keith, fair enough.. just realized I was harshing your your post so jumped on to mod it, but you got there first ~ such is the way of things, with apologies. Ironically I was having the very conversation with the same analogy, elsewhere. Anyway, where else but Montana are you going to find a top cop by the name of Muir, encouraging ole sparky wherever you happen to be.. Funny stuff. Thanks for the story.. dg
