So, anyone know where to camp up around Washington Pass/Mazama area before the campgrounds open?

Thanks,

Adam

USFS Early Winters should be open now.  Updated info at:

Dunno if enforcement is any different, but we've camped in TH parking lots as well as in the gated entrance road to closed campgrounds back in a prior decade. But indeed, some of the campgrounds toward Mazama (including Lost River if you are up for a teeny drive - it's a pretty spot right on the river) should be open by now.

Check with the ranger station in Winthrop, but at least this past weekend camping at Early Winters and Klipchuck was free (no charge until they begin garbage and water service).

Klipchuck is pretty nice. Its a bit of a drive from the pass (:25 maybe?) but its a nice spot.

We camped at Klipchuck a couple weeks ago and it was free and nice. Water was off but creek nearby and a pile of pine rounds nearby. Driveway Butte trailhead is at the camp and a nice tour when still snowy.
