Lost: My Little Girl; Found: A Young Woman
Allow a proud Dad to brag a bit. Some of you have met and skied with my daughter Molly over the past few years. I just wanted you to know she's been accepted into the Air Force Academy, and will be leaving our home to head off into the Wild Blue Yonder in less than two weeks. She's an amazing person, and it's a privilege to be her Dad.
I'll just outline a few of our experiences together that all of you can relate to:
2004 - Her first trip to Camp Muir at age 13 - She snowboarded down, earning her first turns.
2004 - An emergency bivouac on the way up to Sahale Glacier. Had to setup camp in the dark and sleet. The stove didn't work. Dinner was cookie dough by head lamp.
2006 - Scrambled up to the top of St. Helens. Pre-dawn start, napping at the top by 10:30. See picture below.
2007 - Climbed Mt Adams. She summitted faster and in much better shape than me. And she glissaded down faster than I could ski down.
2008 - Trip up to Yodelin. Icy, frozen crusty snow. She hated it. And learned every day in the mountains is a good day (?)
2009 - Mount Baker - She post holed up the Squak, onto the Easton Glacier and snow boarded down. Slept in a MOSS TENT! Whoohoo!
So I'm losing one of my best Washington back country partners. But...anybody up for a Winter 2010 road trip to Colorado Springs? PM me, cause I don't need much of a push to head south for powder and visit my little girl...

Congratulations to Molly and you .
Some good skiing near Colorado Springs.
Taos isn't too far either.
Here's a recent TR of Y Couloir on Pike's Peak on TGR.
You'll be able to hit this when you go to visit Molly.

Congrats Don, Molly and family!! Don, I am sure you will find the Colorado BC options much to your liking. And I am sure that being in the Air Force Academy, Molly will have plenty of free time to explore and find all the local spots before you head down!!!
Molly, good luck in Colorado Springs!! I can't think of many more beautiful places to live than on that campus, tucked up into the hills!!
