Dynafit Heel problem was created by Joedabaker
One of the screws that holds the top plate of my classics broke off in the heel piece and I have some other problem with the screw that lowers the DIN, either the nut is stripped, because it does not want to screw in or out.
I am in a last minute hustle to get ready for the weekend skiing, can I exchange the heel piece on an FT on to the heel post of a classic? Has anyone done this before? If so has it worked reliably?
I assume I can get a new Classic heel body piece from Dynafit, but in the meantime I need a quick remedy without remounting bindings if possible.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Joe

I'd swap the heel piece -- I'm pretty sure the post is the same for both. I've got a collection of Comfort heelpieces (okay, they're Anastasia's, but she won't mind) -- if you need one, let me know.
I'll bet the DIN adjustment screw's nut is broken -- it's a tiny little square nut that nests into the top of the DIN mechanism, under the plate. It's very easy to break... (ask me how I know). The DIN still works however it was last set, but you won't be able to adjust it unless you replace that nut.

Not sure about the post compatibility - Telemark Pyrenees lists the same part for Classic, Comfort and ST but I can't see why they'd change it for the FT. Pretty easy to check, though.
I had the same problem with a set of Comforts last week - the DIN adjustment screw stripped out and Salewa is sending me another.

The heel on the FT is substantially higher than the Classic. Some of it is to accommodate the ski brakes. It may not fly.
I measured the screw hole pattern on the FT heel to just change the system out, but it seems that the screw holes are slightly wider on the heel of the FT than the Classic. Toes are the same pattern.
What a mess I got myself in MR Wizard....

Unfortunately, breaking off the screw that holds down the top plate on a Comfort or Classic heel is hard to fix. (Fortunately, it's freakishly rare.) If the screw is broken off within the plastic body of the heel unit, then hard to get it out . . . in which case only three out of four screws are holding down the top plate, which is not a good permanent situation. For the moment (if you're desperate), back off the vertical release setting a bit (i.e., to whatever release value you think you can ski within cautiously), which will lessen the pressure on the "sandwhich" the three screws are holding together.
As another posted already noted, the heel pedestal is substantially different between the Classic vs the Comfort/Vertical. I highly doubt you can just put a Vertical heel unit on a Classic pedestal, but worth a quick try I suppose.
The screw mounting pattern is identical though across all Dynafits (except for the rare-in-the-U.S. models that lack any fore/aft adjustment). Any differences you're noticing are just some sort of weird optical illusion. So you can uninstall the entire Classic heel, then reinstall an entire Vertical FT heel unit. The only problem is that you'll now have way more delta on one ski than the other -- some people are sensitive to this, and others don't notice at all.

You can't put a Comfort heel piece on the Classic. It's not the same diameter.
I've skied with a broken screw on a Vertical heel piece plate for the last couple of seasons. My binding has not exploded. I actually have replacement screws from Salewa but haven't bothered to put them on
