Warmest ridge of alltime? was created by garyabrill
It seems to me that this recent high pressure ridge was the highest amplitude and warmest I ever remember in winter. Notably freezing levels in Washington were as high as 14000' but also reached 4000 meters at Roger's Pass and 3800 meters near Jasper.
I recall freezing levels to 3400 meters in 2003 (briefly) in the southern Columbia and South Coast Mountains of BC and a brief 11000' freezing level at Panorama in 1980 or so. Locally I remember skiing to Muir shirtless on December 17th of 1980 and having perfect corn. I think Muir was around 40 degrees but windless that day. Muir reached the upper 40's a couple of days this time. The wildest telemetry readings were at the top of the Baker ski area where in one twenty-four period the low was 56 and the high 61. Simply amazing how warm it was. Some great corn, though.
I didn't look at any current maps but the forecast maps showed 582DMM levels into BC and along the Alberta border. Anybody else have any thoughts or recollections on this amazingly warm ridge?

I can't speak of the ridge but working outside at sea level has never been so cold and damp for so long.
Ive been doing it here since 79. I went to Paradise twice this weekend just to warm my bones up.

Gary, giving away my age - yours too:) What about the big westcoast drought back in 1977 - I think? Huge high pressure, seemed like it lasted all winter. Darn near an endless PNW summer that winter. Very warm and very dry.

I seem to remember the '57-'58 season as being a really warm one as well...

Amar, do you know of anyway to look back and compare this ridge to previous ones?
