Ski Mt Adams? was created by MacRae
I'm a relatively beginner skiier thinking of skiing the south ridge on Mt Adams this spring. I'm trying to get an idea of how steep/difficult this route is. I climbed it once, but that was long before I thought about skiing anything. Can someone describe the difficulty in relation to ski runs at a lift? I'm most familiar with baker, and would like to have something to compare it to.
I'm prepared as far as avi/climbing gear and education goes, just curious out the skiing difficulty.

Most folks skin straight up the S. Ridge, so it can't be over 30 degree. In Bakerese, somewhere between Mitzi's and North Face.

It's less than 30 deg lower down, but I think, a bit steeper at the top but very easy and no real consequences if you fall. I wouldn't ski it until it was soft and my experience is that you need to wait for a really hot day( 90 in the lowlands) for really nice corn. It's about a 6 hr hike from the TH and I usually try and reach Piker's Peak by about 11.00, let the legs rest and then drop in about noon. Earlier than that and the corn might not be cooked but it varies.
IMVHO ,don't try it too early in the season as although the temptation is great, it is usually icy at the top.
The last 2 times I have done Adams has been the first week of July although I am sure there are good days much earlier than that.
MY 2 cents based upon my personal experience.
Good luck, it's a great ski mountain but the SW chutes are a better ski than the South Face but more committing.

Thanks for all the replies... I seem to remember all the skiers bootpacking up when I climbed it. I climbed in mid July, and the skiers up there seemed to be pretty happy with the conditions. (Don't remember what the temps down low were, but it was cold on top.) I'll check out the chutes as well.
