Telemark and Alpine Touring Ski Demo 1/10/08 was created by MarmotMountain
Marmot Mountain Works' Telemark and Alpine Touring/Randonnee ski demo day will be held on Thursday January 10th 2008 at The Summit at Snoqualmie.

The demo will be held at the Summit West ski area from 5pm until 9pm (Subject to snow conditions).  This will most likely be the only event of this kind in our region this winter.

Many of the manufacturer's representatives will be in attendance with their fleets of demo gear for you to try out...a broad assortment of equipment will be available including gear from Black Diamond, Atomic, G3, Ski Trab, Dynafit, K2, Scarpa, Garmont, as well as the new NTN bindings and boots.  Marmot Mountain Works will also make available the majority of their store's demo gear.

Please bring your own telemark, randonnee, or alpine downhill ski boots and poles if you have them in order to maximize your options and enjoyment.

The use of the demo gear will be free of charge, but you will need to purchase your own lift ticket and you will need to bring a driver’s license to sign up for the demo.

This demo is open to adult skiers; no kid's size equipment will be available.

For more information, please call Marmot Mountain Works @ 425-453-1515.

Thanks again to TAY administrator Charles for allowing us to post this announcement for this event.....

It's tonight! Not like I need more skis, but all this snow may be good for testing some super-fats...

Yee haw -- looking forward to it! I'm betting that with 6 inches of new, it will all feel good.

Damn... I was hoping I would be able to get up there, as I'm very curious to try out the NTN. Anyone who does, please post a report, if you'd be so kind...

I got a chance to ski NTN last night and the verdict is still out. After much fumbling with adjustments of the binding by the staff, I finally got them on the slope. I was on the Scarpa boots and couldn't believe how stiff the bellows were. They were new out of the box, so maybe they soften after some use - I did notice some relief even after one run. First run I couldn't do anything except parallel turns, couldn't get the bellows to break. Went down for another adjustment and they backed the springs off a bit - I think. Second run I was starting to figure it out, but still not happy with the stiffness of the bellows. I used to think my T1's were stiff. When I put them back on last night they felt like slippers compared to the NTN boots. The one positive about the boots is that they're super light, probably similar to my T3's. I played around with the tour mode doing a couple kick turns and found them not much better that my 3pin CRB's. Anyway, I doubt I'll be swapping them for my CRB's any time soon, but I'll probably rent a pair for a few days to try to understand what the hype is all about.

the verdict

Was my favorite ski there. Thanks to Lock and his crew, as well as the reps who cheerfully adjusted bindings all night in the cold and wet.
