s.w. chute (singular!) mt. Adams was created by skierguitarist
A little late on this one but am interested in skiing the s.w. chute again on Mt. Adam's W. Face. Did it July 31, 07!!!! Read Trumpsailer's report a few days prior and off I went. Looked doubtful from Hood River and "possible" from Cold Springs (was hoping some of it was hidden as it didn't quite look continuous). Well...the pictures from tr did not lie. It was plenty wide and absolutely wonderful. Headed down off the false summit at 1:00 pm for hundredes(?) of turns down this uninterrupted swath of white. (Actually it was much wider than I had expected as it looked about a foot wide from Cold Springs...)

So...has anybody done it this month? I'm thinking that since it was so compacted and consildated, that it still might be continuous and skiable/enjoyable.

I skied the main route the same weekend, and wondered about the sw chute. I'll be curious about it for Aug/Sept. too. Hundreds of turns...and people think we're crazy.

Do you think it will stay continuous top to bottom through August? Choppin' to get back on it.

I'd doubt that it's still in, but you'd have to go to know! (This thread really does belong over in Random Tracks...) If it is, perchance, still in, I'd definitely try for a pretty warm day - after my last trip to Muir, I'd fear icy conditions in the chute (and mind the rockfall on a warm day!). 2000' of windraked 38 degree icy stuff wouldn't be fun. You might try perusing the nwhikers pages for route photos. They won't get the whole chute, but the edges of South Spur photos often show the upper half or so of the chutes.

Good luck!

No, I didn't do s.w. chute or anything else for that matter. I'll wait for your report! Thinking about heading up (from Bend) to do Baker via your latest Roman Wall venture. A bit hesisitant to make that long drive up from here considering how cupped out the lower stuff seems to be from your report. The pictures of the good stuff and 2000' of it, is making me consider the drive. Hopefully another storm will fill the bigger cups a bit.... then I'm out of here! How about that ticket, are they going to forgive you???????
