The permits are now sold online? Huh???

"Climbing resumes July 21: Mount St. Helens climbing permits will be sold online starting July 13 by the nonprofit Mount St. Helens Institute: mshinstitute.org/contact_us. A one-day permit costs $15 plus a service charge of $7. "

Edit - here's what's on mshinstitute.org/index_html :

Mount St. Helens Climbing To Resume On July 21, 200

Forest Service and Mount St. Helens Institute officials announce the reopening of the new climbing reservation system and the planned reopening of the volcano to climbing on July 21, 2006. Mount St. Helens climbing permits will be sold on the Internet on a first-come, first-served basis by the Mount St. Helens Institute, starting July 13, 2006.

A permit fee of $15 plus a service charge of $7 per person is charged for a one day permit (valid for 24 hours beginning midnight on the permit date). Total cost per permit is $22. The $15 permit fee will be used by the Forest Service to manage the climbing program, and maintain roads and facilities. The $7 service charge will be used by the Mount St. Helens Institute to fund permit processing and to help support the Mount St. Helens climbing program through educational and resource management programs.

Climbing permits are required year-round to climb above 4800 feet elevation. Between July 21 and October 31, climbing is limited to 100 climbers per day. Maximum party size is 12 persons. More information will become available here beginning July 13, 2006.

Also - why didn't they open it up in May, like they originally talked about doing?

Does this mean there is no lottery at Jack's?  Hmmm... guess not.   Got to thinking, if I had the time, I might just as well go to Adams, but I would like to see the new crater layout at St. Helens.

This ought to be an internet riot on July 13, ha ha...

All the weekends in July are now filled. Lucky for me I'm unemployed. Does anyone know where I can find information on conditions? I'm expecting a snow free path to the top, but I would rather not be surprised.
