Where's the Mt. Adams TRs?? was created by Double E
C'mon, I'm sure at least a few TAY-ers have skied the southern routes in the last week or two,  or at least attempted to!    Got Beta?   ;D  8)

Heading up there this weekend, to ski either the South Spur or the SW Chutes.  Any recent info (or general info) appreciated.  I've actually hiked to the top of it before, but never skiied it.

thanks
Ethan

I have been wondering the same thing. I know that the Cold Springs TH is still several miles from the end of the snowfree road. My group has scheduled June 22-25 for our Mt.Adam's trip. I, too, have climbed, but not skied the mountain, and would welcome any info on mountain conditions.

What do you want to know? There's pretty much no way you could go wrong. You'll need to hike some extra road. There's been fresh now and then in the last couple weeks, so you're going to get some really great corn down to some elevation, followed by some rotten muck, then once you get below some elevation (below which the recent storms have been rain) it should turn to really great snow again. That's my hypothesis.

My guess is people are waiting for the road to completely melt, then you'll see more TRs than you could want...

Adams is a lot of effort before the roads melt out, and not many are willing to head up there in uncertain weather without easy access. I'd expect some reports filtering back if we ever again get a weekend of predictable sunshine and warmth.

Note that this sort of effort is not necessarily much of an impediment to those possessed of superhuman self-motivation, pathological over-optimism, or deep and regrettable ignorance (no one in particular in mind; just thought this needed to be said).

What do you want to know?

I guess one thing was road access; yeah, I did see the June 1 report, saying 3.5 miles of snowed-in road to TH.  I also called the USFS yesterday morning, and they said that's still all they knew.

Another thing is relative avy danger, given current weather patterns.  I've got pretty decent avy-predicting skills if I can see and touch and ski the snow, but when it comes to predicting based on recent weather trends (and therefore, namely, knowing whether it's worth the 4-hr drive  ??? ) I've still got a lot to learn.  And I think my two partners for this weekend are about the same.

At any rate, joeb's recent TR from Muir said that he met a few parties that had hoped for the summit but turned back due to conditions, so ...  that, plus the slowly degrading weather forecast for this weekend, is making me think of maybe putting it off a week.

thanks all
