Geschmozzel 2006? was created by Pete A
I missed out on last year's revival of the Silver Skis race on Rainier....is anyone thinking about having another 'Geschmozzel' this spring?

I missed it last year as well, and I would love another shot. If I remember right, Lowell mentioned in one of his posts that he was a little hesitant about making it an official event, as then there would be forms and waivers and Park Service issues? Not sure though. I'll try and find it, our maybe Lowell is out there?

I'd do it again!

Currently in training to cut my scorching 37 minute descent time by 5% or more ;D

I haven't decided whether I want to organize another "race" this spring. My motivation for doing it last year was to experience the geschmozzel start so I could write about it in my book. Last year's trip fulfilled that requirement.

One of last year's participants suggested that I should do it again, this time in memory of my brother Carl. That's an interesting thought.

I've also thought about doing a variation I call the "Silver Skins" race. Instead of a top-to-bottom run, this would be like a rando rally. It would be a round-trip race from Paradise to Muir and back. The downside is that there would be no geschmozzel - no mass start from the top.

My personal to-do list has lots of other trips on it, and I find it hard enough these days to get free time, so I'm undecided whether I want to devote a weekend to this. My apologies for being so indecisive.

If somebody else wanted to run with the idea, I would certainly not get in the way. I wonder how much interest there is...

I really enjoyed last years gathering and I also like the idea of a "silver skins" race - a whole different set of tactics, hmmm... It would be pretty hard to beat the good snow and weather we had last year though.

No can do this year however since I'm in the land of OZ for the time being. If you guys do it I'll be eagerly anticipating a trip report.

I'm not sure anyone needs to take the lead in organizing the event this year. Let's just propose some possible dates, pick one that allows the greatest number of interested people to participate, and agree on a start time from Camp Muir. Then whoever shows, races. I too couldn't make it last year, but the idea of bombing down the snowfields with many other skiers sounds fun and different than the usual solo or duo descents.

I'll start with a general proposal of any Sunday in May. Anyone care to make a more specific suggestion? Start time might be 2:00ish give or take depending on snow conditions.
