I'm going to Alta in mid-Feb. ;D ;D ;D and am going to drive. Does anyone who has done it have any tips for the drive or places to stay?

Just punch it! You can make it in a 11 hours if you never stop longer then it takes to fill up your tank.

Whoa, are you driving a Ferrari? LaGrande, Oregon is 6 hrs. from near Issaquah. And I have a hard time believing it's only another 5. I would say it's more like 13 hrs. with gas stops and good roads. Although I could be wrong, I've have only flown...A good spot to break it up seems to be Boise. And Soldier Mtn. ski area (or it's surrounding backcountry) would be a good addition.

i've done the drive several times and i'd say 9 hours to Boise is fairly fast, but a good bet, i've done it in 8. And then 4 more to SLC. If you have 2 people, Alta in one clip is no problem. On your own, I'd say get a motel in boise area or at least stop fo another red bull.

Pick a day when the weather is good. Seriously. If you have a flexible schedule, leaving a day earlier or later depending on weather will save a lot of time in the car.

I do this drive numerous times a year (wife's family in SLC). Before kids we would do a straight through drive, usually take around 12hrs. Now with an overnight stop we generally will drive to Twin Falls, or Mtn Home (Mountain Home is 50 miles beyond Twin Falls). Mtn. Home is a good, easy in-out place to stop with resturants right next to the hotels and a 24hr WalMart in case you need supplies of any kind (comes in handy).

If you have never seen the salt flats, you can take the drive from Twin Falls due south through Nevada, take a left at Wells and you will pass Wendover and be on the Bonneville Salt Flats (land speed record area). It adds about an hour to your trip, but its cool to see at least once.

On the drive just be careful between Pendelton Oregon on through the Blue Mtns. Can be unpredictable, especially around LaGrande.

Otherwise, the trip is not bad. Slow through Oregon because of their 65mph speed limits, but you can fly through Idaho and Utah at 75+
