Confused about splitboards, please help! was created by Jimmy Row
I've looked everywhere, and I still can't get a straight answer: are there split board binding interfaces that allow you to use a softboot?

Manowar~

your looking at $150/each for split kit and the skins. you may be able to find a better deal online somewhere, but $150 is pretty standard. You will also need a board to split if your into recycling, or you can by a brand new set up from prior, www.priorsnowboards.com or voile see link above. new set ups deck and all run just shy of $1000. plus dont forget your avy beacon, probe and shovel.

I split an older board I had kicking around, the process is pretty easy if your handy....one suggestion, wear a protective suit of some kind when cutting as fiberglass shards are a pain...check this link www.couloirmag.com/gear/snowboard/split_a_board.htm

best of luck

IMHO:

Route #1: split your own:
look for boards that art only a few years old to split (say 02 and up). in portland, we have next adventure, they sell new leftovers from years past @ great prices (ie under $200). these boards have the newer technologies you're used to on your solid board, thus will ride more like your solid board. you also need a wood core board (ie no burton t6's or old morrow foam cores) i know several people who split older boards (ie 90's ) and regretted it due to the vintage of the board. the whole splitting process isnt's real hard, but takes some time to make sure you get everything right, and you dont want it to be a waste. split kit is about $150, skions are about $100

personally, I found a Burton Fish @ a shop leftovers sale a few summers back and split that. I'm after pow, so logically this was the deck for me. I dont do much spring or summer BC stuff.

also, I hate to say it, but ebay has some great leftover decks, but only used them as a last resort, support the local shops and or check craigslist.

Route #2:
buy a manufacutred split from voile, prior burton, never summer, etc. these are REAL nice boards, but are pricey. my dream deck is a Prior khyber or a facotry split fish.

I use a lightweigth strap binding (burton c60) w/ a stiff boot (salo Malamute), both which I got broformed from friends in the biz, cause their both not very cheap.
