Crystal - 12/01

Yee Haa, Woooo Hoooo! Get ready a full on marketing report…Great day, great lack of participation (other than many hard core non-working types), some nice amount of blower smoke over what fell yesterday, in and out on the vis-oh-meter, but when the vis was good in the open areas the skiing was fast and sweet…other times when the fog rolled in, then close to the trees where the place to be.  Got really big lucky when I followed a patrol guy to the upper BearPits gate….conversation over the radio was cut and set the gate and let the first “legal” non-poaching folks in…and lucky me I was first in line.  After a short one minute wait…jump in…nice deep snow, lots of things to dodge, skied the lines I “think” are the safest – or at least the ones I’ve done, three great laps with the first two all untracked and deep! – for me anyway.  Other fun lazy areas for me…Breakover to Sunnyside to Memorial Forest, all good when the vis was prime. Good runs in the Valley from the Bowl to Grubstake Trees to Grubstake to main Elk Bowl to all my fav lines lower down to the bottom of the lift.  MiddleIceFerkBerg skied very nice, plus lots of left over untracked on the plunge side.  Great day, great early season, great middle of the road kinda early season day…not to little, not to much...just the right amount of muscle punishment – quads are finally recovered and working (mostly) pain free.

Other – No clue about soups (or even if they had any), rumors are Chick Noodle tomorrow.  Very light early season crowd on what are based on recent years really great conditions. 

Other other – never posted anything about FQex conditions…but at noted by QF the quality over there yesterday was great, better than any recent early season skiing I’ve had over there (don’t know about today, but it has to have been very very nice).

Other other other – Parking Crystal typical…empty pay lot and the rest of the cars parked in the lots could have almost filled that empty space….
PS...did I say the Coombas were in heaven today?

Upper Exterminator was fabulous- good coverage and lots of open lines. Lower down got lumpy and worked my second day quads. Great start to the season!

8” of new offered up some great skiing. The spoiler was thick fog. We jumped in wherever the slightly clear teaser holes were for some nice turns, especially Green Valley Bowl right and upper Memorial. The coverage has improved, but that just means they open something else with rocky entries or a sketchy/brushy ending (Door 2 and the Frontside). Unfortunately the get-around cat tracks had a lot of dug-up gravel - straight lining the edges usually worked. The fluff thickened and grew heavier by mid-day and the skied-out snow packed hard in some areas. A great day ended with a lot of legwork skiing blind when we quit.

Nice to almost finally meet you formally....and as I said to you "you'll probably pass me" which you did on the first lap!....great day, great skiing in the Pits, glad your getting in shape for Alpy big mountain skiing - hopefully soon.
