Gotta say a pretty interesting day. Arrived late (8:30) to lots of snow falling in the parking lot – second row! (still more than a 100 ft from the lifts). Not many people around in the lodge except for what sounded like a group on some kind of ski vacation – sorry! Jumped onto an empty CHex lift a little after 9 and then an even emptier REX….hhhhmmm…patrol standing around the top keeping everyone in GV for a while early….blasting out the Gap and a couple big blasts on the Queen. Heard rumors of some really big slides. When I poked around later I have to say the slides where pretty big and more impressive than I expected. Early morning snowing hard, filling things in, pretty firm every where under the new – could see the groomer corduroy under the new and it wasn’t going away – but it was edgeably skiable…. Did a couple runs out on SunnySide and Memorial during a good vis period, doable and good where no one had been, but other folks would have not been impressed. Actually since it kept snowing all day a lot of areas kept skiing better and better. Should be some fun things tomorrow and the groomers should be very nice for those that can suffer them. Did CB lodge late morning with #1 and it was pretty empty. After lunch I checked out the damage from Lucky Shot and out Snort Elk. OUCH! Very Very Big! With limited vis, the slides in PB where massive, huge break on the right side looking up totally demolished the cat track just below Windy Pass, slid down to the dirt and left a bolder field 6 ft high all the way down to just before the first steep pitch on Lucky. Another slide slid down Little Porteo to the crest dropping into Lucky – big boulders. I skied into the lowest possible entrance of Lucky trees towards BP’s – bigger ouch! Whole thing was a snow boulder field, where they had the comp last Friday was downed trees and a total mess – pretty impressive. Skied out Snortelk bowl and saw a couple of big slides doing some tree trimming out that way also….Gotta say it was all pretty impressive…That said, we stayed in the “safe” zones and the skiing was improving as the day progressed. No lift lines, no crowds, snowing pretty hard all day, not wet. Managed to get my minimum vert for a lift served ski day…
Other – CB lodge soup was the Triple C…#1 liked it. I had the Chili and am still tasting it every once in a while…hhhmmm…. A lot was pretty full with a little overflow…but not much, not sure how full the Pay lot was...

Campbell Basin, Bear Pits, Powder Bowl and Employee Housing slide paths have all produced large avalanches today. These slides produced 6-8 foot crowns, slid to the ground and took out many trees. These slopes will most likely remained closed for some time. It is likely that other avalanche prone terrain will be closed in the near future.

Mountain report confirms that six is dead and buried. Sounds like quite a party. Hope this doesn't portend similar events in the backcountry this winter. Probably will suck tomorrow but I've got to see the carnage. I Love Campbell but can't say I'll miss the old lift.
