Big day, one of the biggest new pow days ( does not really say much this season, but it was pretty deep and light and new and fun), fair sized crowd today, but it was fair sized from the start and it was a crowd of snow surfers that knew how to tear it up….so most untracked lines did not last very long. Vis was nice most of the day, snow was falling and the conditions felt really like winter when I finally quit. No real lift lines anywhere after the early morning run. Groomers that I did are very nice. Bad lungs and stuffed up head got me off the mountain way to early – dang….hope I get lucky for tomorrow….

Other – BIG NEWS, soup at CB lodge (after I begged a little early lunch) was Chicken Noodle – had meat, had lots of vegy’s, had lots of noodles, was very good with that nice piece of French bread (hot from the oven), only negative as noted by John was that it was a little salty, so water was required for the rest of the day (noticed that with other soups also). Didn’t last long today, felt like it was getting colder and greyer and was snowing on the upper mountain when I left. Pay lot – what do you think? Rest of A lot full, cars in C lot (1/3 full maybe), a few rows in B lot. Saw a big heard of Elk at the base of the Crystal Blvd this morning early. Fun day – other than my head. Heard that yesterday during the afternoon was entertaining – Buckets swinging wildly, HC cable not so well attached to the towers requiring some fun rope unloads for folks – yuk, knock on wood may that never happen to me please.

Traverse out when I did it (only half way) was pretty up and down whoopdy doo time - might have been better if I'd done it more than once - So Eskinmo, what would you say? I assume you went out further?

Hey ddk-  Going tomorrow, rock skis or real skis?

I'd say mostly real skis - but I've been on my new love of life rock skis for a long time this season - AfterShocks! Working pretty nicely and other than one nasty ding on HC first day they have not had any real damage.....but then my Coombas are still waiting and my "new/old" AfterShocks will not see any snow for a while. Every snow day it gets better on the mountain.

Big Day? How our criteria have lowered. Neck-deep snow to a hamster (boot top) was really nice. But, skied like big icy moguls on the aspects that got sun last weekend. Too light to soften the harsh hits (Frontside), it skied off the ice very quickly. North-facing aspects were the best. Weird that Campbell Basin had only 4" new when everywhere else had boot to shin deep. Staying away from the Frontside was the call. Lots of slides in Powder Bowl, but avoiding them, it skied nice till fog moved in limiting visibility. While tonight's storm moved closer, Green Valley, West Face, and Snorting Elk were the best.

Good news was the new snow covered most rocks, but still lots of sumps and sticks in the tight spots. Other than the top of Six, as side slippers quickly removed the snow. Once off the top, good to go.

The traverse to Campbell (we didn't go far) has replaced most of the rocks with huge wooopty dos (other than the first 10 feet of skidded rock)

More than 6" tonight and good skies should be safe. Less than that, I'll use semi-"real" skis.

Ken
