Crystal - 11/20 was created by ddk
Very nice sunny day, cold but no winds. Pretty big crowd early for a Wednesday with only one lift running, but most of the snow quality was pretty nice – top ¾ early in the day was very nice with a nice new layer of soft snow and after the hoard broke up the crust down low in the valley that skied nicely also. Crystal was not ready for the size of the crowd, base lodge locked up tight all day, only on mountain food at the top (don’t know what that was, brought my own), not enough lift opp’s to control the crowd at the bottom of GV or do anything else – good thing that the ski patrol did not have too much of their own work today, cuase they did a good job helping people figure out how to load full chairs. Did almost start to finish, very nice day, some rocks, but missed most of them. Quality of the skiing should be good for the next few days.

Other – no soup report again today, A parking lot was full with a little overflow down into C. Big thing today was watching the folks that cant read a sign that says “Closed”! Kept watching brainless people skiing and riding where they should not have been.

Top 2/3rds of Green Valley had great snow for the first hour and a half. The lower third, breakable rain crust till ground up by the masses. A huge crowd for one chair with 15 minute lines mid-morning till noon. They left early after grinding most of the good snow to rocks or ice. Had a lot of fun and got the ski-brain in tune, but I can't see any worthwhile skiing lasting to the weekend as Crystal has planned. Going tomorrow as it looks like no improvement through Thanksgiving. And I have rock skis to punish.

You both must have left early and missed the opening of Snorting Elk late in the afternoon.
Part-timers!!!!

Incredible crowd for a Wednesday.

Mostly young, resplendent in bright Gore-TEX( as was I---softshell actually)like birds of paradise, helmeted, big powder skis with big bindings, BC packs bursting at the seams with avy gear, 10 essentials and guidebooks no doubt. They had more electronics than a suburban Radio Shack.

As I said to my curmudgeon pals in the line, " a testament to the lowered work ethic and the current youth unemployment crisis coupled with enabling, affluent boomer parents. "

Sorry neither of us reported about the late SnortElk opening - I liked it and heard a rumor that the other guy liked it also...though I'm okay having missed the first run through the breakable crust on the bottom part out there....can only get better from here on for the next few days....Think Mr Ferk and I made it pretty late "enough" today - more runs in the Valley than I really like to make...

I wholeheartedly agree....only one run in GV was enough for me and that was at the end of the day!
