January 29th, Alpental

With consideration of the weather forecast, recent snowfall totals and the anticipation of the hoards of powder technicians we opted to watch the cam and rolled over to Alpental at the crack of 11:00, just in time to roll into the back of line at chair 2 as they started loading.

Snow was high density and wet on the bottom, and wind effected on the top.
While I had fun, it was just another good day at Alpental for me, not epic pow.

I would like to extend mad props to the Alpental Pro Patrol for the extra hard work they put in today to get the place open today. Pushing through deep, heavy snow on a long list of control routs, dealing with a twitchy, unstable, and unpredictable snow pack isn't easy work. You guys rock! For those who waited in line at Armstrong and were overheard complaining, this is hard, risky work, and sometimes it takes longer to ensure that the slopes are safe for you to play on. Consider yourselves lucky the chair opened when it did. This is Alpental, it's a wild little place, if you want predictable, please go to Central, West or Hyak.

Wow, I am impressed with the start time for Chair 2 considering all the noise we heard across the valley! Just plowing through that snow with a pack full of bombs always impresses me! Thanks for sharing.

Now that is funny. A good close friend was a Pro in the 90s at Alp and came up with best line ever about working at the Pass. He said "you either want to work here, or HAVE to work here".

Man, I hear so much funny shit in line. Today after the patrol hit Shot 8 for a nice slide the bro behind me was like "yeah, thats shot 10". DOH!

I would jump on that job @ $65/hr. And they do work hard. I did control work with my bro on a similar day like today in 1990. His route was WAC bluff (the ridge with Shot . It was bear lugging out 40 pounds of explosives through 2 feet of guanch. No glamour there kids.

we got our fill Sunday as the snow kept piling up with the line on Armstrong fading to zero and my eight year old saying one more time, one more time!  
who was I to resist?  It's always nice to be on the same page

my bad, i don't usually bring my mom but the reports from the tv newslady outside the pancake house said skiers and snoborders will love it! she just had to go.
