April 7, 2011 Alpental

We arrived at 845am in time to see the slopes full of skiers getting fresh tracks. Lifts opened at 830 we heard, and grooming was absolutely minimal, thanks!  Sun was in and out, otherwise major baking could have made skiing challenging. Instead we enjoyed lapping fresh on chair 1 for two hours while some folks put up with chair 2 lines to get the big ski lines.  We left at 11, too lazy to line up for the upper mountain.   

Now for the rest of the story!  A dreadlocked dude texted us when the high traverse opened and we raced back to get three guided untracked runs.  Love the TAY brotherhood, and the kind people who left the area before the sidecountry opening. Thanks.

There was already heavyness and some crust below 4500' and on south aspects. It was a very good day, I want a rerun tomorrow, but am not sure if Alpental is the place for it. Consulting the telemetry tea leaves is in my near future, maybe a fortune teller too?

The out track you guys, put in at the bottom of the valley was awsome.
Another 5 ft and it would have gone up hill, not to high not to low

We also hit up Alpental today and got in four laps on chair 2 before heading to work at 11:30. The snow up top was still plentiful and dry when we left.

We couldn't believe it was April!
