Last night during a ski lesson at Summit West, my wife, Shellie was struck in the back by a snowboarder. She suffered a broken rib and crack in her #12 vertebrae.
The place where she was hit was in the "blind spot" just below a roll in the terrain -- which has a large "Slow" sign and several "no jumping" signs as well on top of the roll. The snowboarder and his friends stopped, provided assistance (including posting someone on top of the roll) and summoned the ski patrol. I was skiing else where at the time (never attempt to teach your SO) and found her at the ski patrol shack. The snowboarder was there and was terribly regretful for causing the collision.

Shellie was grateful to have been wearing a helmet -- which at least reduced the discomfort of having her head slammed against the hardpack and perhaps spared her the complication of a concusion.

Please look before you leap.

Bummer.
Glad she wasn't hurt worse.
Must have happened while we were skiing over on wild side, eh?

Ironically I think the accident occured almost precisely at the time that Silas was joking on Wildside, "How does a snowboarder introduce himself? Whoa sorry dude"

Damn - that's too bad, Randy. I hope the prognosis is good on the cracked vertebra.

Look before you leap indeed.
