Crystal - 01/09 was created by ddk
Aaahhh, How to waste all you TAY folks time with this report….NEWS FLASH From the MARKETING DEPARTMENT (aka me, agree I should get paid for this) – Big snow day at Crystal, light crowds (even though from what I heard the food lines were big mid day), No lines on REX or GV went I was there, and defiantly no lines on High Campbell all day - I like that old beater. Snowed a lot most of the day, started with a couple new, good vis, then the dump started around 10am…and 10:30am and 11:30 am and….telemetry looks a little off recently…I was finding filled in runs and deeper and deeper pockets of snow (to be candid – a definite crust layer underneath in the expected places….but my oh my it was very okay with the easy skiiny straight Crossfire’s today) Got some knee deep runs up in Campbell Basin. PB was great when the vis was good...BP’s was mighty fine skier left tight…Gotta say – Either I’ve sold my soul to the Devil (and forgot that I did), or I’ve paid my dues this season already, or I’m getting a little Karma kickback for actually being nice at some unknown moment, or I am just a total dick! (lot of folks would agree with that....)…lookin forward to tomorrow. ddk

OK, since you brought up the marketing department, I'm gonna do my "turd in the punchbowl" thing here.

To anyone listening from Xtal:  the lodge is a fucking nightmare. You built that cute little cafe that seats about 3 and probably boosts your daily bottom line by a few points, and in the process destroyed any traffic flow and crammed more tables in to an already overcrowded space. It's impossible, unpleasant and can't possibly be good for biz.

Please, take some tables out, don't reserve the entire mid area for the privileged few, DO SOMETHING. At least act like somebody gives a shit. It's bloody awful. I shudder to think what it will be like if you actually succeed in increasing lift capacity.

Glad to hear there were no defiant lines on 6 today.

Once upon a time I too was a skier who could plan a day on the mountain free of such places. Someday I will be again, but until that time lodges are a necessary evil. Lucky (or maybe just cooler than me) you!

First off, I do appreciate ddk's reports. That said, since he opened the door to the issue of his reports looking like a release by the Crystal marketing department - my words not his - I'll take the opportunity to weigh in on the issues and what was said by offpiste. If there's a buck to be made at the "expense" of the average Crystal Mountain skier - reduced upper lot parking as an example - they will. The lower Lodge is indeed more of a mess than ever.

I have not bought a season's pass for the past two years due to actions of Crystal Mountain management, and won't ever again. I travel more, and ski more bc now. I "use" Crystal for weekdays w/ heavy snow, and nothing else. Too bad really, as there's much to love about Crystal; chair 6, South Back, and North Back to a lessor extent.

Crystal Moubntain; great terrain, and management that would make the boys at Enron blush.

They are a business and are presumably in business to make money, it is not a public service or co-op.

In case you forgot.  ;)

There is a substantial waiting list for parking permits and over the recent busy weekends and holiday week days the permit parking area (which is varied in size with projected demand) has been full.

It sounds like you perhaps have other gripes though and are not just ranting against the basic business fundamental of supply and demand pricing.

management that would make the boys at Enron blush.

^ That's just a little over the top don't you think? Are you actually suggesting illegality/fraud?
