Crystal - 03/17 Happy St Patty's Day! was created by ddk
Ski Report Wordy Long - I shoulda been at Crystal yesterday! Oh Ya! I was and very glad of that. Today looked big and blue bird early, light early crowd, but yesterdays heat whacked the south facing slopes and groomers - mostly. Started with GVB/MIFB and MIFB was totally IB (should taken more this morning). MIFB had typical nasty grooming after a slush day - only did it once. Bounced over to LS which skied groomer nice since it was wall to wall from the bottom of PB (including Little Porttillo) to the REX - no more happy packed pow baby bumps for a while. Low early filtered sun plus some winds sent me over to get colder with #1 on FQex groomers - some nice some not so great, all dependent on sun from yesterday. Crowds mostly light, but were building for the 10 o'clock hour rush - only a real problem due to lack of line control help. All morning it looked like weather was going sunny and then high over cast and then who knows what? Bailed kinda to early based on various issues. Still was fun, grooming was variable, north facing slopes still had nice packed cold snow, south facing was very nice icy bouncy who knows what.
Other - Did not do any lodges (not up long enough). #1 was having more fun than I would have expected - she really likes her skis. EXP's stayed attached to my boots - oh boots, first nasty of the day the main ankle buckle brook this morning - have you ever used duck tape to keep your boot on? Colder than expected this morning - dressed for big second day warm, didn't notice much warm. Lots of new aches and pains from yesterdays fun PB run. Didn't do it today, but GV Bowl skier right skied pretty happy with a broken boot. Pay lot was fuller than normal, B and C had more cars than yesterday, D looked fullish, lots of folks arriving when we left and still driving up 410. Coulda been funner for Green Day, but at least it was not raining and we were skiing....ps I pulled a buckle from my old spare parts boots and got them on my getting old current boots - Praise the force or which ever devine entity you prefer. Mentally more ready for tomorrow.

The morning was horrible. The Valley was good till halfway down the Bowl when you hit the frozen coral. Iceberg and Luckyshot where groomed to perfection - extra smooth, but frozen no-traction hard. We hunted around and that was the result everywhere. Until, Lower Bull Run showed slight softening and we headed to Powder Bowl. Upper PB was excellent and the lower third had softened just enough. Bear Pits was a workout, but fun. Repeat. It took till 11:45 for the daylight saving time and high haze delayed softening to happen. Suddenly, lose the coats as the whole Frontside, T2B’s Sluiceway-Lower E, the Valley, and more Powder Bowls-Bear Pits became a blur thanks to the no-line crowd. At 2:00, suddenly clouds moved in and the re-freeze started and it was time for this one to go home.
Looks like tomorrow’s forecast could go either way - Hard icy morning and hard raining/snowing afternoon, or Hard icy morning and some other kind of afternoon. Place your bets.

Was waiting last night for a post from you Mr BB. Question be, would that SS be, as many folks know #1 (ha ha - trademarked now per CD) I am also very happy and glad to see you back on the slopes...just wish you had posted a ski report about where you went and how it was? Nobody wants to read my wimpy same old posts anymore, need some new blood - Binx? Jim(dont know if you have a TAY name?) Anyone else? Pass folks - whats going on way up in the far North, besides nice posts about Stevens from maiinly Quick Foot. Or the nice posts from Zap from all over the world!
