We hiked the pleasant 2 mile trail to the plateau of Grand Park, on the north edge of Mt. Rainier National Park, and found 6 inches of snowpack evenly overlying the meadows there. This was sufficient to let us enjoy great cross country skiing with our waxless skis and get a (very) few turns. The sun came out and Mt. Rainier cleared off, giving us great views of the mountain's north face.
